life is a process of growing up. saying goodbye to childhood, we step into another important time of life in the pace of young, facing new situations, dealing with different problems.....

however, who can really say what the youth is ? a period of time? a belief?an attitude to life? or anything else? actually, everyone has his ownunderstanding of young, it is a period of time of beauty and wonders, only after you have experienced the sour , sweet ,bitter and salty, can you really become a person of significance.

just like a famous poet said squo; youth is a lovely song ,where nothing is impossible ,youth is a meaningful book, yousquo;ll be never bored of it ;youth is a rapid river ,it keeps on flowing day and night ;youth is a cup of tea ,it shows you different kinds of tastes in your life. squo;

as youth is so precious, of course, we must treasure it .donsquo;t let the limited time pass by, grasping the young will means a better time is waiting for you in the near future.

so,itsquo;s necessary for us to prepare ourselves well for the future to come. having a view on those great men in the history of hunman being, they all made full use of their youth time to do things that are useful to society, to the whole mankind, and as a consequence ,they are remembered by later generations, admired by everyone. so do something in the time of young, although you may not get achievements as these greatmen did ,though not for the whole world, just for youeself, for those around!

so, what should we do when we are young? here,isquo;ll point out some tips to help equip ourselves.

first of all,think of what yousquo;d like to be some day. a teacher ? a doctor ? a writer? donsquo;t afraid of dreaming of big and great .since you are young , you can dream of doing anything and becoming anyone in the future.

whatsquo;s more , never ignore the power of knowledge. read more books and travel around. for one thing, it can increase your knowledge, for another, itsquo;ll broaden your horizon.

last but not the least , stick to your dream. it easier said than done. after all, future is not all roses. young is just like blooming flowers, they are so beautiful when blooming, which make people feel happy, but with time passing by, after they withers ,most people think they are ugly. and so it is the same with young, we are enthusiastic when we are young, then we may lose our passion when getting older and older. so we should have enough courage and determination to overcome all the difficulties in struggling on the road.

me and my fears

honorable judges, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen:

it is a great honor and pleasure to be here on this beautiful saturday morning to share with you my sentiments about life and passion for the english language.

about a year and a half ago, i took part in my very first english speech contest. when i stood before the microphone with all eyes starring directly at me, i could hardly speak. i stood there, embarrassed and helpless, struggling in vain for the right thing to say. my fears had paralyzed me.

while my passion for english has never changed, i lost my courage to speak in public. when my professor again encouraged me to take part in this competition, i said no. i couldnsquo;t endure yet another painful experience. he looked me straight in the eye and said something that pierced my heart. i will never forget his words. look, he said, we all have our fears, and you have yours. you could twist your ankle in a basketball game, but then be afraid to ever play again. running away can never dispel your fears, but action will. a winner is not one who never fails，but one who never quits.

i spent a whole day with his words twisting and turning in my mind. then i made the bravest and wisest decision of my life: i would face my fears – and take part in the competition!

as it turned out, my dear old professor was right. now, here i am, once again standing before a microphone. my heart is beating fast, and my mouth is dry, but most importantly, i have faced my fears -- and that makes all the difference!

我花了一整天时间思考他的话。然后，我做出了一个勇敢而明智的决定：我要参加中央电视台第五届希望之星英语风采大赛!

老教授是对的。我发挥出了自己的水平，一路杀进了全国总决赛。此时此刻，当我再一次站在了麦克风前，仍然心跳不止，但更重要的是，我终于能够勇敢地面对我的恐惧了，而这已足够了。

my name is jie lidi. today, my topic is: “confidence”. as we all know, failure is the mother of success. but what i want to say is that success is the child of confidence. without confidence, things can becom#e negative and uncom#fortable. i remember, during an english class, i wanted to make a sentence using the word "listen". i should have said: "i listen to the voice of america" but i was too nervous and said "i listen to the noise of america". everybody in the class laughed. since then i wanted to train myself to be confident. now, confidence makes me brave and courageous. take this speech for example. i wanted to enter this com#petition, but i would feel very embarrassed if i made mistakes. just then, i thought about my dream. my dream is to becom#e a scientist when i grow up. if i am not confident, how can i overcom#e difficulties i face? if i am not confident, how can i succeed in developing myself in the future? i will do it! today, i am making a speech in public and i feel proud and confident!

when i was nine years old i went off to summer camp for the first time. and my mother packed me a suitcase full of books, which to me seemed like a perfectly natural thing to do. because in my family, reading was the primary group activity. and this might sound antisocial to you, but for us it was really just a different way of being social. you have the animal warmth of your family sitting right next to you, but you are also free to go roaming around the adventureland inside your own mind. and i had this idea that camp was going to be just like this, but better. (laughter) i had a vision of 10 girls sitting in a cabin cozily reading books in their matching nightgowns.

(laughter)

camp was more like a keg party without any alcohol. and on the very first day our counselor gathered us all together and she taught us a cheer that she said we would be doing every day for the rest of the summer to instill camp spirit. and it went like this: r-o-w-d-i-e, that's the way we spell rowdie. rowdie, rowdie, let's get rowdie. yeah. so i couldn't figure out for the life of me why we were supposed to be so rowdy, or why we had to spell this word incorrectly. (laughter) but i recited a cheer. i recited a cheer along with everybody else. i did my best. and i just waited for the time that i could go off and read my books.

but the first time that i took my book out of my suitcase, the coolest girl in the bunk came up to me and she asked me, why are you being so mellow? -- mellow, of course, being the exact opposite of r-o-w-d-i-e. and then the second time i tried it, the counselor came up to me with a concerned expression on her face and she repeated the point about camp spirit and said we should all work very hard to be outgoing.

and so i put my books away, back in their suitcase, and i put them under my bed, and there they stayed for the rest of the summer. and i felt kind of guilty about this. i felt as if the books needed me somehow, and they were calling out to me and i was forsaking them. but i did forsake them and i didn't open that suitcase again until i was back home with my family at the end of the summer.

now, i tell you this story about summer camp. i could have told you 50 others just like it -- all the times that i got the message that somehow my quiet and introverted style of being was not necessarily the right way to go, that i should be trying to pass as more of an extrovert. and i always sensed deep down that this was wrong and that introverts were pretty excellent just as they were. but for years i denied this intuition, and so i became a wall street lawyer, of all things, instead of the writer that i had always longed to be -- partly because i needed to prove to myself that i could be bold and assertive too. and i was always going off to crowded bars when i really would have preferred to just have a nice dinner with friends. and i made these self-negating choices so reflexively, that i wasn't even aware that i was making them.

now this is what many introverts do, and it's our loss for sure, but it is also our colleagues' loss and our communities' loss. and at the risk of sounding grandiose, it is the world's loss. because when it comes to creativity and to leadership, we need introverts doing what they do best. a third to a half of the population are introverts -- a third to a half. so that's one out of every two or three people you know. so even if you're an extrovert yourself, i'm talking about your coworkers and your spouses and your children and the person sitting next to you right now -- all of them subject to this bias that is pretty deep and real in our society. we all internalize it from a very early age without even having a language for what we're doing.

martin luther king had a dream.he desired for a future where blacks and whites would coexist harmoniously as equals.by speaking the way he did,he educated,he inspired,he informed not just the people there,but people throughout america and unborn generations.he pushed forward the pace of american black society towards the racial equality .

thomas edison had a dream.he dreamed of a lamp that could be operated by electricity,began where he stood to put his dream into action,and despite more than ten thousand failures,he stood by that dream until he made it a physical reality!and today,his dream lights up the world at night.

walt disney had a dream.this,in itself,wasn't unusual -- he was always dreaming.he dreamed of making the first animated feature film,and of building an amusement park that parents could enjoy right along with their kids.walt disney empowered his dream and today,disneyland,disney world and disney theme parks attract around the world thrill millions of visitors each and every year.

john f.kennedy had a dream.he wanted to land a man on the moon and return him safely to earth so as to restore faith in the american way of life.john f.kennedy empowered his dream and 8 years later neil armstrong stepped on the face of the moon.the moon landing certainly gave americans new found confidence.

youth is a special life relay station ,the growth with the worry ,the life feeling become aware happily with the dream ,collected a unique youth melody in here .

we decide.we choose.and as we decide and choose,so are our lives formed.in the end,forming our own destiny is what ambition is about.and most importantly ,you are the one you choose to be.

it is easy to waste our lives ,our days ,our minutes .it is easy to exist than living .so hold fast to your dreams,for if dreams die,life is a broken-winged bird,that cannot fly.hold fast to your dreams,for when dreams go,life is a barren field,frozen with snow.
